Justice Soon For Investors Who Lost Hundreds of Millions of Dollars
There may be justice soon for investors who lost hundreds of millions of dollars as a result of 1 Global’s malfeasance. After many months of litigation and negotiations, The Moskowitz Law Firm succeeded in securing a multimillion-dollar settlement that provides significant benefits to investors.
The Justice Department recently wrote, “A former Chief Financial Officer of 1 Global Capital, LLC has been charged in connection with a $330 million securities fraud scheme, related to a commercial payday loan business that operated from early 2014 through July 2018, that impacted more than 3,600 investors in 42 different states.”
On the civil side, The Honorable William Thomas of Miami-Dade County’s Eleventh Circuit Court’s Complex Business Division granted preliminary approval of a proposed settlement between over 35 defendants and thousands of investors who purchased unregistered securities from 1 Global. The company collapsed into bankruptcy in July 2018 after the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission instituted enforcement actions for 1 Global’s role in the sale of unregistered securities to fund its merchant cash advance business.
Judge Thomas appointed Adam M. Moskowitz of The Moskowitz Law Firm as Co-Lead Counsel with Frank Balint of Bonnett Fairbourn Friedman & Balint PC to represent multiple classes of investors.
Moskowitz remarked, “Thousands of investors, including many regular people investing significant portions of their retirement savings, lost almost everything as a result of 1 Global’s fraud and self-dealing. 1 Global used its national network of brokers to trick people into purchasing risky investments that 1 Global kept hidden from federal regulators. This settlement is an important step toward making these investors whole again.”
Judge Thomas has scheduled a final approval hearing for November 25, 2019.
